DOn't Think Twice 12-12-13

Pages Read= 93-129
Prompt: Summarize What you just read

Anne is starting to think of Jake again and is starting to feel something towards him. She's starting to love him again. Anne starts experiencing dreams where she sees him and he just leaves her. She doesn't want to feel love toward Jake since he already broke up with her. Anne wants to feel strong and not be hurt or sad when she thinks or hears of Jake. Anne starts to realize she can't try and not get emotional when she's acting shy and won't socialize.

Anne puts aside all those feelings. But, she starts to get depressed as time goes on, after the call. Anne gets a phone call from her family. All on different extensions, so after one person it's the next. Pamela, her litte sister, tells her everything's all right and that she's studying. Anne thinks that she's failing a class though. Her mom says when she comes back Anne and her were going to start "bonding". Then, Anne and her dad start talking. Anne's hero was her father. Since her mom was depressed and crying when Anne was little. She is ok now but her Dad was the only one she depended on. After a little serious talk her dad said bye and she felt no particular emotion towards it.

After a few weeks more there. Anne started having more feelings, unknown feelings. She was then invited to Nancy's "party".  Anne went there with Cheryl and the rest of the girls. There they had wine and played poker. Nancy smoked and drank wine while dealing out the cards. As the night went on and the wine bottle got lighter and lighter, Anne had a little too much to drink. Anne started joking around and they started throwing things at each other. Anne felt like all of them were friends and she finally fit in. Which she didn't want at all. Then, the next morning, they were called to Ms. Landing's office.

The Giver 12/5/13

Pages Read: Finished The Book
Prompt: Describe what you read.

The Giver and Jonas are starting to chat more about the community. When Jonas asked to watch the release of the twin, he was horrified. He saw his dad put the baby down by sticking a needle in him. When Jonas finally realized what horrors and secrets lie in the community. So he plans to leave the community.

The Giver sends him off by telling him he'll handle things after he's left. So Jonas starts preparing. By checking the security status and slowly planning his great escape. No one knows about his plan except for the Giver. He waits for the next seminare in December. So no one looks for him, his parents will think he's with Asher, and Asher will think he's with his parents. Then, one morning, his dad said they were going to release Gabriel. That was it.

After hearing from his father, Jonas took Gabriel with him and escaped! He took about a month full of food and his father's bike for the child seat. Then off he went, out of the community and into the wild. Where after a few days, planes started looking for him. Then as he approached a snowy hill, after he ran out of food and hope, he went sledding down the hill. He heard music as he fell, but it might've been an echo.

The Giver 11/28/13

Prompt: Describe the main characters

Jonas is the new receiver! Everyday after school he visits The Giver for his training. He gets memories and learns new feelings and colors. But, that really affects him and makes him start to think. Now, he knows more about how someone feels and has more understanding of what's "elsewhere." For example, he stopped taking his pills and felt happier, but nervous. When his buddies were playing "war" Jonas knew what real war was.

The Giver is filled with knowledge and power. But he does have secret sides of him. He doesn't take stirring pills and that might've influenced Jonas. The last receiver was a female. After a while, The Giver started growing attached to her and couldn't stand to hurt her. He didn't want the receiver to feel pain. So, after a while, she applied to get released and left.

Asher is an all around funny person. He is hard at taking things serious but at least he's plenty of fun. But ever since the ceremony something seems different to Jonas. Asher is a Director of the Recreation Center, but acts strange towards Jonas. Jonas wants him to stop playing war, and Asher said he was ruining it. Then, after Jonas tried to explain without telling Asher what it was like, Asher said he apologized and said that he was not "worthy" of him. Asher seems jealous or annoyed ever since Jonas was assigned the new receiver.

The Giver *Spoiler* (Kind Of) 11/21/13

Pages Read: 0-82
Prompt: Summarize

Jonas is part of a perfect community, or utopia if you will, and it all starts out with a weird event. A jet flies right over the community! Later on, the pilot was released, giving us a new term. (Later on they tell us that elders are released.) We find out his best friend is a boy named Asher, also he has a daughter named Lily. Each "Family Unit" only has 2 children. A boy and a girl. There are ceremonies each year. For new children and things for them.

As Jonas is approaching 12 where he gets assigned a job, he starts stressing out and getting feelings. They call it stirrings. I think it's when you start to develop feelings for someone. He starts talking to his parents about it. He feels like after he won't see his best friend Asher again after the assignment.

Jonas watches his sister get her new jacket as the ceremonies start. The next day the assignments are given out with bikes to the nine year-olds. As the assignments to the less important characters are given, Asher's turn nears. Asher gets the most laughs and applause with the directer of the recreation center. As they go on they skip Jonas. Everyone's confused and anxious. He gets the job that selects one person and they can't back out. He's the memory remember guy thing. He begins his training the next day with a memory of riding a sled in snow.

Don't Think Twice 11/14/13

Prompt: Are the characters realistic (do they seem like they could be read people)? Why
or why not?

I think that LaNelle acts like every one else. She is like a regular teen girl. She has her doubts and crushes. Also, she "gossips" and knits stuff with other people. LaNelle made a tragic mistaker according to Anne though. Like most girls LaNelle can get attached to things, like her baby. So, when it was born it died. She was devastated because she wanted to keep it. But she still visits it's grave sometimes.

Anne reminds me of a lot of girls. Shy and timid, but can be a blast if you get to know her. She doesn't want to make new friends and is per say, "antisocial." But, Anne cracks jokes every once and a while and talks to herself a lot. Even though during doing dishes Anne does talk to her roommate Cheryl once in a while.

Donna is almost ready to have her baby. She wants her boyfriend, "Dick," to marry her and to keep the baby. But when Donna receives a letter saying Dick's moved on from one of her friends, she bursts into tears. Then shortly after, has her kid. It's kind of sad and probably would happen in real life. All three of these people could be real.

Don't Think Twice 11/7/13

Pages Read: 1-24
Prompt: Summarize what you've read.

Week one is the first week and sets the tone/mood of the book. It introduces the main character and surrounding or supporting characters. You find out that Anne, the main protagonist, is pregnant and is in a home. A special home. Kind of like rehab but for pregnant woman. She's 17 and a fellow girl their is almost ready to give birth. Her name's LaNelle.

Week two, Anne doesn't want to stay there and/or socialize. But, Mrs. Landing has a little intervention and Anne agrees to go to one of the meetings. What they are are usually just talking about problems. Also denying that their boyfriends will move on or dump them. There are occasionally people that knit in the background.

Week three, Anne starts developing feelings as she continues coming to meetings.
all feelings, but still feelings. Especially when Donna told everyone about her story and that Dick and her were going to marry each other. Donna started feeling like she needed to keep her baby. Everyone started crying and Anne felt a slight feeling of joining in. But doesn't. She continues to be antisocial and block herself off of everyone.

The Black Cat Poe Stories 10/28/13

Prompt: Create a ‘WANTED’ poster for the antagonist.

Poe created a poster for his cat. He denied his cat's death the next night while drunk. Poe forgot that Pluto, his cat, got hung. So while intoxicated he thought Pluto was alive but had run away. So, Poe created a Wanted and a reward. In the story he says he found a new cat just like Pluto, but with minor changes. He might've been given that cat, that's why the new cat was so quick to like Poe. But this theory was proven wrong later on in the story.

Intoxication is a main factor too. Poe went through tough times and started drinking. Maybe that's how he died. Alcoholism was one of my ways he died. He probably overdosed and/or got too drunk. Poe could've killed himself while drunk or just couldn't handle all that alcohol

Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince 10/23/13

Pages Read: 325-425
Prompt: List at least three problems the characters faced

One problem is for Hermione, she hates Harry's advanced potions book. It's not possessed by a spirit or memory, like the chamber of secrets, it just has words in it. Why is she so mad about that you may ask? Harry is the new "star" pupil in potions, the new professer, Horace Slughorn, loves Harry and thinks he's the best. The book contains secrets and tricks to potion making. So, she's mad because it's just cheats for Harry. Hermione feels she should be the star getting attention and not Harry.

Second problem, ever since Ron's first Quidditch match he's been having troubles and mixed feelings. There's tons of girls lined up for him but he doesn't know if he likes Hermione. But ever since he started going out with another girl, Hermione's mad at him. He doesn't know what to do. However, this problem was fixed a little when Hermione started loosening up and found out Ron didn't like Lavender.

Third problem, Harry Potter has been curious about Draco Malfoy ever since that day in Hogsmeade. When the student was upon the Imperious curse.  Harry also overheard something between Draco and Snape. Snape mentioned a unbreakable vow, if he broke it he'd die. But Harry's friends all said that he was just saying that. Then, one night when Kreacher and Dobby were fighting each other. Harry and Ron broke them up and Harry asked if they could tail Draco Malfoy.

Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince 10/17/13

Pages read: 172-325
Prompt:  Describe your least favorite character and explain why. Describe your most
favorite character and explain why
My Favorite character is Luna Lovegood. She's so interesting and cool, Luna's dad runs a newspaper called the Quibbler. The Quibbler got really popular and Luna made friends with the main protagonists. She seems kind of lifeless and has a lot of interesting quotes and stories. Luna is my favorite of the whole series. She is strange and helps Harry with a lot of things.

I want to discuss my favorite character more by explaining how she could had helped more. I mean if Luna was in earlier books it would have been amazing. Maybe her or Hermione could've helped Harry out against Professer Quirrel in the first book. Or she would have recognized the basilisk earlier before Hermione was frozen. There's so many possibilities and she might haver became a new main protagonist.

My least favorite character is Draco Malfoy. He snooty and a rich spoiled kid. Draco's dad is also involved with Voldemort. So, Draco could be getting secret missions from Voldemort or trying to get his dad out of Azkaban. Draco is also a huge jerk, he bullies kids and people in his own grade or house! I think he is the definition of evil.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince 10/8/3 **SPOILER**

Pages Read: 45-171

Harry Potter is taken by Dumbledore to go and convince an old teacher to come back to Hogwarts. His name was Horace Slughorn, Harry convinced him when they had to leave. They went to the Weasly's house and stayed there until they got their O.W.L.S. Then, they all went to go school shopping at Diagon Alley. The place was now run-down and had few stores still open. But, Fred and George run a shop. They visit there and have an encounter with Draco Malfoy getting their robes. While in Fred and George's shop they spot Malfoy by himself. They follow him using the invisibility cloak, they listen in and find out that he reserved something. When they try to find out they get kicked out.

They start to leave to go to Hogwarts, Harry gets invited to the "Slughorn Club." He wants to find out what Malfoy reserved, so he goes to the Slytherin cart. When they arrive Malfoy stuns Harry and he is found by Tonks. Tonks takes him to Hogwarts and they find out Snape's the new Defense of the Dark Arts teacher! Harry thought Horace Slughorn would be the new Defense against the Dark Arts teacher but signed up for potions.

The book's starting to get really exciting and cool. On the train Draco suggests that he might be a Deatheater. If he is, that'll make the plot really thick! I mean Harry is his nemesis and if he works for Voldemort then Harry might be in trouble. Snape has always been Potions teacher, now he's changed in position.

Prompt: After reading, I wonder…

After reading this I wonder what'll happen, I mean, in the series all the Defense of the Dark Arts teachers resign or leave. Snape is one of the protagonists so that's going to be interesting. If he dies that'll be kind of an upset. But, if he moves on will he go back to potions? I can't think what might happen to him.

I also wonder about if Draco Malfoy is a death eater. It's kind of obvious since Harry is enemies with Voldemort and Draco. Plus, his dad was a death eater. I think Draco was invited to be a death eater by the Dark Lord himself. Since he needs a replacement for his father. Draco probably accepted to help his dad out of Azkaban.

The last thing I'm wondering about is the new teacher, Horace Slughorn. Since he's now teaching potions, will he be good at it? What if Horace is a death eater disguised like Mad-Eye Moody. Harry also might get a special potion that weakens Harry. I really hope that he does have some special potion, or something that creates a plot twist.

The Lady or the Tiger? Ending. By: Carlos Moreles

Her decision had been indicated in an instant, but it had been made in several days and nights of anguished deliberation. She had known she would be asked,  she had decided what she would answer, and, with the slightest hesitation, she moved her hand to the right.

The Youth was breathing heavily, it was extremely noticeable to the Princess and the man himself. He wasn’t sure if he could trust her. He took one last prayer as the audience gasped at what stood behind that door as he opened it. It was the girl! The Youth knew the princess would be jealous and mad, but it would have to happen. The Youth was just glad for his life.

After the marriage he was wondering where the princess was. He was feeling despair and grief. He couldn’t believe he was stuck with the girl. She’s the one who accused him! He felt angry and jealous. The princess already had another man. The man was out and noticed the king. The king ran up to him looking furious and angry. His teeth gritted as he asked, “Where is the princess!” The Youth replied with a simple, “I don’t know.” The King explained that she was missing ever since the man that was with her proposed.

It was almost dawn that the Youth finally arrived at their little cabin he noticed that the woman wasn’t there. There was the princess. He heard struggling and muffled screams of help coming from the closet. The princess told him to run away with her. He agreed, they were going to live a new life. The King arrived to see the woman, she told the King all she heard. The King disposed of her and went off to find his daughter and the Youth.

1 year later, the couple lived happily in a big log cabin. The Youth found a job and put food on the table. They went to lakes and swam and did other activities when they could. One day the Youth came back to almost the same situation as a year ago. The King was watching the house burn with the Princess tied up in there. The Youth tried to save her but was seized by the King’s guards. He was forced to watch his lover die in front of his eyes, it was slow and painful for both of them. The King threw him in jail and sentenced him to death the next day. The King lived happily ever after.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince: 10/3/13 **SPOILER ALERT**

Prompt:
Pages read: 1-45

Harry is starting his sixth year of Hogwarts! After his fifth year when the Ministry of Magic finally apoligized for not believing Harry when he said Voldemort was back.  They also are having troubles now. Like why did Draco get chosen for a job of an assassin? Meanwhile, Harry receives a letter from Dumbledore saying he's coming. Harry doesn't warn the Dursleys of Dumbledore's arrival. It doesn't seem like Dumbledore's coming to Little Whinging.

This book seems amazing, with suspense already building even in the beginning.(Even though I read the whole series already, I am a forgetful person though.) Already, suspense is building. What if the Dursley family doesn't approve or insult him? Plus, Harry's now older and is going on a mission with Dumbledore.  Or will he miss his chance because Dumbledore doesn't show up?

What I think of the book so far. It's building up to a great plot, I don't know how or when something bad's going to happen. Harry and Draco were always nemesis. But now that Draco's probably a Death Eater, I think Harry's going to have to prepare himself for the worst.

My Favorite Book Of All Time

The Lighting Thief, By: Rick Riordan

My favorite book is The Lightning Thief. It's the book that started it all. It turned out into a whole series and a continuing, whole other line of books. Percy Jackson found out his dad was actually Poseidon, that meant he was a demigod. So, he went to a place called Camp Half-Blood. There, he and other demi gods train to fight monsters. But, when his mom is taken by a minotaur on his way to Camp Half Blood, Percy found out during a campfire. He thought she was dead.

Percy decided to go on a journey to find his mother. A guy named Luke gave him flying shoes and a shield. His newly made friend Annabeth, and his best friend Grover, the one who told him about the camp, insisted he didn't go. But he said he had to so they went together. Also, Percy is accused of taking Zeus' Thunderbolt! They meet the God of War, Ares, on the way and Percy ignores him. Ares told Percy to give back the lightning bolt.  But Percy insists that he doesn't have it. They leave and get the last pearl.

They go through the Gates of Hades to get Percy's mom back. There they find out the shield Luke gave him had the lightning bolt in it. They rescue Percy's mom and have to leave Grover behind. They got to Mt. Olympus and explained it was Luke. Zeus rescued Grover from the Underworld and the book ends. Those were the important parts of the book. It continues into a series. Then Rick Riordan releases a new series called "Heros of Olympus," it's a continuation of this series. That's why this is my favorite, this is the book that started it all.
