The Giver 11/28/13

Prompt: Describe the main characters

Jonas is the new receiver! Everyday after school he visits The Giver for his training. He gets memories and learns new feelings and colors. But, that really affects him and makes him start to think. Now, he knows more about how someone feels and has more understanding of what's "elsewhere." For example, he stopped taking his pills and felt happier, but nervous. When his buddies were playing "war" Jonas knew what real war was.

The Giver is filled with knowledge and power. But he does have secret sides of him. He doesn't take stirring pills and that might've influenced Jonas. The last receiver was a female. After a while, The Giver started growing attached to her and couldn't stand to hurt her. He didn't want the receiver to feel pain. So, after a while, she applied to get released and left.

Asher is an all around funny person. He is hard at taking things serious but at least he's plenty of fun. But ever since the ceremony something seems different to Jonas. Asher is a Director of the Recreation Center, but acts strange towards Jonas. Jonas wants him to stop playing war, and Asher said he was ruining it. Then, after Jonas tried to explain without telling Asher what it was like, Asher said he apologized and said that he was not "worthy" of him. Asher seems jealous or annoyed ever since Jonas was assigned the new receiver.

The Giver *Spoiler* (Kind Of) 11/21/13

Pages Read: 0-82
Prompt: Summarize

Jonas is part of a perfect community, or utopia if you will, and it all starts out with a weird event. A jet flies right over the community! Later on, the pilot was released, giving us a new term. (Later on they tell us that elders are released.) We find out his best friend is a boy named Asher, also he has a daughter named Lily. Each "Family Unit" only has 2 children. A boy and a girl. There are ceremonies each year. For new children and things for them.

As Jonas is approaching 12 where he gets assigned a job, he starts stressing out and getting feelings. They call it stirrings. I think it's when you start to develop feelings for someone. He starts talking to his parents about it. He feels like after he won't see his best friend Asher again after the assignment.

Jonas watches his sister get her new jacket as the ceremonies start. The next day the assignments are given out with bikes to the nine year-olds. As the assignments to the less important characters are given, Asher's turn nears. Asher gets the most laughs and applause with the directer of the recreation center. As they go on they skip Jonas. Everyone's confused and anxious. He gets the job that selects one person and they can't back out. He's the memory remember guy thing. He begins his training the next day with a memory of riding a sled in snow.

Don't Think Twice 11/14/13

Prompt: Are the characters realistic (do they seem like they could be read people)? Why
or why not?

I think that LaNelle acts like every one else. She is like a regular teen girl. She has her doubts and crushes. Also, she "gossips" and knits stuff with other people. LaNelle made a tragic mistaker according to Anne though. Like most girls LaNelle can get attached to things, like her baby. So, when it was born it died. She was devastated because she wanted to keep it. But she still visits it's grave sometimes.

Anne reminds me of a lot of girls. Shy and timid, but can be a blast if you get to know her. She doesn't want to make new friends and is per say, "antisocial." But, Anne cracks jokes every once and a while and talks to herself a lot. Even though during doing dishes Anne does talk to her roommate Cheryl once in a while.

Donna is almost ready to have her baby. She wants her boyfriend, "Dick," to marry her and to keep the baby. But when Donna receives a letter saying Dick's moved on from one of her friends, she bursts into tears. Then shortly after, has her kid. It's kind of sad and probably would happen in real life. All three of these people could be real.

Don't Think Twice 11/7/13

Pages Read: 1-24
Prompt: Summarize what you've read.

Week one is the first week and sets the tone/mood of the book. It introduces the main character and surrounding or supporting characters. You find out that Anne, the main protagonist, is pregnant and is in a home. A special home. Kind of like rehab but for pregnant woman. She's 17 and a fellow girl their is almost ready to give birth. Her name's LaNelle.

Week two, Anne doesn't want to stay there and/or socialize. But, Mrs. Landing has a little intervention and Anne agrees to go to one of the meetings. What they are are usually just talking about problems. Also denying that their boyfriends will move on or dump them. There are occasionally people that knit in the background.

Week three, Anne starts developing feelings as she continues coming to meetings.
all feelings, but still feelings. Especially when Donna told everyone about her story and that Dick and her were going to marry each other. Donna started feeling like she needed to keep her baby. Everyone started crying and Anne felt a slight feeling of joining in. But doesn't. She continues to be antisocial and block herself off of everyone.

The Black Cat Poe Stories 10/28/13

Prompt: Create a ‘WANTED’ poster for the antagonist.

Poe created a poster for his cat. He denied his cat's death the next night while drunk. Poe forgot that Pluto, his cat, got hung. So while intoxicated he thought Pluto was alive but had run away. So, Poe created a Wanted and a reward. In the story he says he found a new cat just like Pluto, but with minor changes. He might've been given that cat, that's why the new cat was so quick to like Poe. But this theory was proven wrong later on in the story.

Intoxication is a main factor too. Poe went through tough times and started drinking. Maybe that's how he died. Alcoholism was one of my ways he died. He probably overdosed and/or got too drunk. Poe could've killed himself while drunk or just couldn't handle all that alcohol
