The Fault in Our Stars 11/6/97

Prompt: Describe what happened
Pages read: 0-38

The story starts off with Hazel Grace, a lung cancer patient who needs to go to a support group. There we learn about a few characters.  Like Patrick, he's the support group leader and a cancer survivor. There was another kid named Isaac, who was friends with Hazel. He had eye cancer and they usually communicated through sighs.

After a few weeks Hazel met Augustus Waters. He was constantly staring at her at first. After the speech that Patrick was giving Augustus introduced himself. He came out and said he liked her and she was surprised. She kind of liked him too and when the meeting was over they chatted away. While Hazel was waiting for her mom, Augustus took out an unlit cigarette. Hazel was infuriated and disappointed. Since she had lung cancer herself she was mad because he had experienced cancer by losing a leg and he was smoking. After she stormed off, Augustus explained he never lit the cigarette. Then said, "It's a metaphor, you see."

Hazel decided to go over to his house because they had agreed to watching a movie. There Hazel learned some background information along with meeting his parents. We also learned that Hazel's a vegetarian when she rejected the enchiladas Augustus' parents were making/made. Augustus took Hazel downstairs to get the movie and there she found out before his diagnosis he was a basketball player. They exchanged what their favorite book was and both agreed to read each other's favorites.

  2. I've always wanted to read this book, but after reading your blog is inspired me to try reading this year too. I feel like your blog is well organized by showing quotes that help describe what recently happened in the story. The descriptions you wrote are well written and very specific. Great Blog Post.

  4. I really like your summaries, they're easy to read and don't drag. I'm glad your reading this book. I feel like everyone should read this book. It's not even my favorite to be honest but it's a very unique story for young adults.
