  1. I like your butterfly. It appears that Franta Bass was a devout Jew. They will not lose faith in their god, despite what they're going through. This poem reminded me a lot of the people in Night. It's just that they lost faith very quickly, unlike this person. Do you think that Bass ever lost questioned his religion? In this poem, they sound like they never will. This is one of the more hopeful poems. I like all the different pictures that you added to your butterfly because they all are apart of the poem. Some pictures even have multiple reasons to be used, such as the Star of David. Like you said, it represents the Jewish community and how the author is proud. Great job.

  2. I really liked your butterfly. I can tell that Franta Bass is very proud to be a Jew. It is cool how you said that he was not afraid of wearing the yellow star like other Jews. It sounds like you understood your poem very well and you did a great job explaining why you put the things you did. I think it was very creative how you made the candle represent his spirit and the wind to be his oppressors/people who were against him. Really great job with your butterfly!

  3. Great butterfly. I like how you described the mood as powerful. I think that really is the best way to describe the mood and tone. I also like all the symbols you included on your butterfly. Did you have to look up what the Jewish Resistance symbol was? Those symbols really added to your butterfly. I also like how you drew the Night being lit up by a candle in the center and dawn on the outside. This focuses on light being freedom for the Jews and darkness being the Nazis and the Holocaust. I like how you focused on the theme of freedom. You did a great job identifying the main topic of the poem and illustrating it. Great butterfly!

  4. Awesome Butterfly, I could tell that Franta Bass is a very proud Jew from reading only a couple of tags. I was really happy when you described some of the symbols because I didn’t know what they meant until you explained them. I also like how I learned something new from your butterfly. Like how I did not know that, that was the symbol for rebellion against the Nazis. The candle in the middle was very creative for a small space it had lots of meaning. Great Butterfly!

  5. Carlos,
It looks like the author of your poem is a very devout Jew. You clearly explained that, and you took a really, really unique way of doing so. Out of all the things you can create to define, "unwavering", you chose a candle that will not stop burning. How did you come up with that? Not that I have a problem with it. It clearly explains the poem while gives the butterfly a nice fashion sense. "I'm FABULOUS!". But one thing, wouldn't the butterfly burn?

  7. Your poem shows a lot of pride and so does your butterfly. The crossed off Nazi sign shows resistance. The broken bars shows strength. The candle shows hope and spirit. These are really good ideas to signify your poem. The wind was also creative that it reusables the people (Nazis) trying to take away the author's hope and spirit. Although, there is obviously resistance which is coming form strength trying to protect Franta's hope and spirit. Excellent Job, Carlos!
